Annotation ToolsThe DN100 network camera system is equipped with a selection of annotation tools that enables the user to superimpose a hand-drawn diagram on a captured image. This feature provides the ability to highlight important details of interest in digital images produced by the microscope. A remote user may also annotate an image through the DN100's Internet browser interface, allowing for simultaneous interaction between multiple users of the DN100.
The DN100 camera control unit's annotation tools are located in the PLAY submenu, which can be accessed by right-clicking on the display window and left-clicking on the PLAY tab in the tab header. To the right of the PEN icon are the red, green, and blue pen buttons (Red, Green, and Blue Pens; illustrated in Figure 1). Clicking any of the pen buttons will cause the image display to freeze; also, the mouse icon will turn into a small pen of the same color as the selected icon. While the pen icon is active, the user may left-click and drag on the displayed image to draw a curve or diagram.
To end annotation of the image, the mouse button is released. The user may draw as many curves as desired while the pen icon is active, and the pen icon will remain active until another menu or button is selected, or until the user right-clicks the mouse inside of the display window. The DN100 annotation feature is illustrated in Figure 2 with several green circles in lines superimposed on a digital photomicrograph. Contributing Authors Matthew J. Parry-Hill and Michael W.
