Ovarian Adenocarcinoma

Starting in the ovaries as cysts, ovarian cancer may originate from epithelial, germ, or connective tissues, each with its own characteristics and indicated treatment. Adenocarcinomas are cancers of the ovary lining and are epithelial in tissue type. Like other cancers, the stages of adenocarcinoma of the human ovary starts with the mutation of a single cell. After several replications, a tumor may form in one of the ovaries which then spreads to the other. Following this, the tumor is detectable at the outer surfaces of one or both ovaries. The cancer spreads throughout the uterus, fallopian tubes, bladder, and/or rectum. In the final stage, the tumor bursts and metastasizes, sending ovarian cancer cells throughout the women's body.
