When the DN100 Camera Control Unit (CCU) is powered on, the display window appears on the accompanying computer monitor (although no CPU is required). This interactive tutorial explores the features available through the monitor and simulates a majority of the software functions.

The display window presents a color image captured at 1.3 megapixel resolution that is refreshed at a rate of 15 frames per second. An array of on-screen control windows that facilitate the capture and correction of digital images is accessible from the display window. In addition, the front panel of the CCU contains a number of indicators and buttons that can be used to monitor the CCU and gain access to its image processing and networking capabilities.

The tutorial operates in a manner that is similar to the native DN100 CCU. When the tutorial initializes, a randomly selected specimen image appears in the image display area of the tutorial window. Directly beneath the image display area appears a realistic control panel that closely resembles that of the native DN100 CCU. A number of recessed control elements are accessible from within the image display window. The functions of the front panel controls and the recessed controls of the display window, which are limited in comparison to the native DN100 CCU, are described in detail in the DN100 Camera Control Unit review. The main menu toolbar can be summoned by right-clicking the mouse on the upper portion of the image display window. A set of submenus can be reached by right-clicking on the lower portion of the image display window, or by left-clicking the Menu button on the DN100 control panel. In addition, the Specimen Slide pull-down menu can be utilized to select from among a variety of specimen images.
