field number (FN)

Number specifying the diameter, expressed in millimeters, of the field stop of an eyepiece.
In the absence of an eyepiece, the field number shall be defined as the diameter of the intermediate image assumed to be formed in a plane that is optically conjugate with, and has unity magnification relative to, the eyepiece field stop.
