A Giant Neuron Found Wrapped Around Entire Mouse Brain
March 01, 2017, via Nature
Check out this news article in Nature about a new imaging method used to identify a single neuron encircling an entire mouse brain. Researchers believe this technique might help elucidate the mechanisms of consciousness. GFP was used to selectively mark a small number of claustrum neurons, 10,000 cross-section images acquired, and recombined into a 3D reconstruction showing just 3 neurons extending across most of the brain.
